Outdoor Heat Pump Installation Guide: Warmth's 2-in-1 Hot Water System
Warmth's 2-in-1 Unit: Domestic Hot Water Heating Solution
Our 2-in-1 unit is designed specifically for domestic hot water heating, combining a heat pump on top with a cylinder underneath.
While the installation is fairly straightforward, following best practices for outdoor heat pump installation can make a significant difference.
Key Considerations for an Outdoor Heat Pump Water Heater’s Installation:
Outdoor Installation Only
The unit must be installed outdoors to ensure proper air movement. With R290 refrigerant, which is highly flammable, indoor installation is not an option.Airflow Requirements
Heat pumps require unrestricted airflow and should be placed in an open space, away from confined areas like boxes or cupboards. This will ensure the efficiency of this hot water heating system.Securing the Unit
Using a timber frame or metal post for securing and strapping the unit can help reduce vibration noise and ensure stability.Condensate Drainage
Heat pumps produce a significant amount of condensate water, so plan for a nearby drainage point and connect it to a drain pipe to manage water effectively.

Installation Guide for the 2-in-1 Outdoor Heat Pump Cylinder
1. Preparing the Installation Site
Ensure youer plans and provides a flat surface (e.g., a concrete pad) and a condensate drainage point.
2. Plumbing and Securing the Unit
Your plumber will secure the unit to the ground or a post and connect the hot and cold water to the system.
3. Electrical Setup
Your electrician will wire the unit to the switchboard, similar to how a traditional heat pump is connected.
4. Getting the Unit Operational
Power up the unit using the control panel located behind the panel with an Orange “W“.
Download the app and link the unit to your home’s Wi-Fi for remote monitoring and control.
Retrofit from a Traditional Electric Cylinder
1. Locating the 2-in-1 Unit
Determine the placement of the 2-in-1 unit. Your plumber will locate or add the hot and cold water feeds to the new location.
2. Addressing Non-Mains Pressure Systems
If your current system isn’t mains pressure, your plumber will determine the additional work required (e.g., installing a mains pressure shower mixer).
3. Electrical Considerations
Your electrician will need to run 2.5mm wires from the unit to the switchboard.
4. Switching On and Setup
Operate the unit via the control panel behind the panel with an Orange “W”.
Download the app and connect to your Wi-Fi for easy control.
Retrofit from Instant Gas Hot Water
Gas hot water replacement is another common scenario.
1. Decommissioning the Gas System
Your gas fitter will safely decommission the gas connection and remove the gas califont unit.
Your gas supplier will arrange for the removal of the gas bottle.
2. Installing the 2-in-1 Unit
Your plumber will replace the gas califont with the 2-in-1 unit, connecting it to the existing hot and cold water feeds.
Ensure the 2-in-1 unit sits on a flat surface; a concrete pad is a suitable solution.
3. Electrical Work
Your electrician will install 2.5mm wiring from the unit to the switchboard to power the system.
4. Activating the Unit
Operate the unit using the control panel located behind the “W” panel.
Download the app and connect the unit to your Wi-Fi for convenient control and monitoring.
Securing the Unit
You can source a metal post to secure the unit from your local merchant, or your builder can supply one.
Flat Concrete Surface Underneath
A concrete pad is essential prior to installation.
While the cylinder has a 620mm diameter, it’s important to account for space around it to secure the posts and unit to the ground. Realistically, we recommend a flat surface of at least 800mm x 800mm (or larger) to safely place the 2-in-1 unit.
